Roots & Shoots

Are you a parent or caregiver of a transgender or gender creative child? Roots & Shoots is a supportive space for families with trans or gender diverse children. This program is based on the two most important parts of a plant: the Roots (parents & caregivers) are responsible for nurturing the Shoots (children & dependents) to be the best version of themselves they can be! No matter how old your child is, all family members are welcome to join PEERS Alliance staff & volunteers to have discussions, gain knowledge, and enjoy light refreshments in a non-judgmental environment. Bring your open minds and hearts, and learn best practices for supporting the trans or gender diverse member(s) of your family.
\If your gender creative child is under 13 years of age, you can bring them along for the Shoots portion of the evening! We partner with Sierra Club PEI Wild Child, and the evening includes fun, outdoor programming with staff, volunteers, and kids who are just like them. Cisgender siblings under 13 welcome. If your youth is 12 - 18, they can join Summerside Rainbow Youth Club, which occurs at the same time as Roots & Shoots.

Black History Month: Practising Care without Permission Ballroom, KIKI & Collective Survival

This public lecture explores how people learn to take care of one another when support is uneven or unreliable. Drawing on doctoral research with Black queer and trans communities, Vincent Mousseau focuses on care as something practised over time through relationship, attention, and shared responsibility.

The lecture centres ballroom culture as one place where these practices have been developed and passed on. In these spaces, care is learned by showing up, staying through difficulty, and responding to what others need in the moment. Introducing the idea of speculative care, the lecture invites listeners to notice how care already circulates in their own lives and communities, often quietly and without formal recognition.

Presenter Bio
Vincent Mousseau (they/he) is a social worker, writer, and PhD candidate in Health at Dalhousie University. Their work focuses on how Black queer and trans communities learn to care for one another in situations where support is uncertain or inconsistent. Drawing from research and long-standing community engagement, Vincent pays close attention to how care is practised over time, shaped through relationships, and carried forward in everyday life.

Brainstorming: Building a Cohesive Brand Experience

Based on information gathered from queer entrepreneurs on Epekwitk during our gap analysis earlier this year, we are designing a workshop series called Minding our Business: A Queer Entrepreneurial Learning Series which will run from now until February.

Pride PEI is excited to announce the second session of ‘Minding our Business’ learning labs! 🧪💻✨🌈

Together for this 2"" session, let's talk branding, but make it practical (and fun)!

Join Ashe Green and Lewis Read from Hijinks Design Agency for a friendly, hands-on workshop where we'll break down what branding means and show you how to weave it throughout your entire business.

We will dive into the fun part bringing your brand to life across everything you do!

Through real examples and actionable tips, you'll leave with a much better idea of how to create a brand experience that is authentic, consistent, and genuinely connects with your customers.

Workshop is open to all 2SLGBTQI+ entrepreneurs on Epekwitk, whether or not you've participated in the previous session.

Queer Poetry Club is open to all members of the queer community. When/where do you meet? We meet from 2-4pm on the first Saturday of every month in the PEITN office on the 5th Floor of BDC Building (There’s an elevator!) (119 Kent Street, Room 505). Are materials provided? Basic writing materials are provided, and you are also welcome to bring your own. What about snacks? Yes, small snacks are provided! Please let us know if you have preferences or dietary restrictions and we will do our best to accommodate.

How much does it cost? Queer Poetry Club is completely free to attend and is volunteer led. What do you do in sessions? We begin sessions with introductions and anything group members want to share.

We then invite members to share poetry (either their own or from other poets they like); once members have shared all they wanted to share, we take some time to write poetry. I don’t want to read or write poetry, but I still want to take in the poetry vibes; can I join? Of course! There is no requirement to read/write poetry to join us; you can simply listen and relax or whatever feels right for you! There are some fidgets and a comfy couch that you’re welcome to use. How do I find out more? Email queerpoetryclub@proton.me.
